The Mission of Educate Malawi is to support and encourage education to residents of the Country by providing supplies, money for teachers' housing and for children to attend school both primary, secondary - and beyond.  By providing supplies and money for education the people of Malawi will be in a better position to advance economically.

What We Do

We are a small 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that helps the people of Malawi further their education.  Our tax ID # is 26-2650416.   We supply basic school supplies as well as building teacher's housing and individual classroom buildings. This is being accomplished through fundraising efforts from individuals and businesses.

Karen Hardy and Shannon Massey at the beginning of their jouney in the fall of 2007.

They traveled to Malawi, Africa in September 2007.  During their 8 weeks in the Country they realized the great need for school supplies and funds for educational purposes.   

Our Business

This small 501(c)(3) non-profit organization  is largely a family endeavor. Stephen Hardy, Karen's husband, supported Karen and Shannon on journeying to Africa for 8 weeks.  He is now a part of the fundraising efforts to support the Country of Malawi with regard to education. 

Who We Are

Shannon Massey visited the Country of Malawi at the age of 16 in the summer of 2005 with a school trip.  She returned with an appreciation for all that we have in our country and our lives.  In September 2007 Shannon and her mom, Karen Hardy, traveled to Malawi and spent 8 weeks volunteering there.  They witnessed the many needs of the people of Malawi: food, clean water, medical care.  In addition, there appeared to be a great need for support for education.  This includes school supplies, money to pay teachers, and money for students to attend secondary school and beyond.  The children and young people continually asked for help for their schooling.  Karen and Shannon returned home with a desire to help the people of Malawi further.  They decided that the area of education is what they wanted to support.

Shannon is furthering her education currently and continues to volunteer in various areas of the community she lives in.  Her other great love is animals and caring for them.

Karen Hardy is a substance abuse counselor at a Connecticut prison.  She comes from a long line of volunteers in her family and they have partly inspired this effort of helping the people of Malawi.

Stephen Hardy is self-employed in the home improvement business.  He has been most supportive of Karen and Shannon's prior journey to Malawi and continues to be supportive of this effort.
